April 13, 20263 min read

What does it actually look like to leave your pain somewhere and move forward — not by forgiving, not by forgetting, but by transmuting? In Daily Dose of Dawn #166, resilience coach Dawn Super speaks directly to the person whose difficult past is far enough behind them that they're safe now, and who is ready to stop dragging it forward. Drawing from her own experience with abuse, bullying, and two decades of personal work, Dawn shares the real mechanism she used to strip the emotion from her pain and finally go out and do her magnificent things.

Leave your pain here and go out and do your magnificent things.

This dose is for a very specific person. You have difficult things in your past. They were long ago enough that you're safe now. These were things that were not fair or right. They were outside of your control. and you're ready to let the past be the past and you're looking for strategies to help make that a reality.

If all of that sounds like you, welcome in to your daily dose of Dawn at Dawn videos designed to expand your thinking.

They say those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it, but there is freedom in letting your trauma leave your awareness. there was for me and I'm going to share how that went and you can put it through the YOU filter and see how you can apply this in your own circumstances.

So what does it look like in real life to allow yourself to leave your pain somewhere? I talked in an earlier dose about transmuting pain where transcending is going beyond your physical limits. Transmuting is going beyond your emotional limits. It's taking any lesson learned and leaving the pain behind.

I give a talk in my home for people who have lived through unforgivable things. I am one of those people. For some of us, the word forgiveness equals absolution equals you still get a seat at the table. I've been told seven ways to Sunday that's not what it means. But definitions matter. And I was not able to rewire my thinking to say I forgive my abuser. Barf. for real. But I could say I understand my abuser clinically, psychologically. Doing that I can strip the emotion out and leave the pain. take my feet out of the fire and just feel the understanding that they were messed up in the head.

I've done the same thing with the 14 kids who picked on me for seven long years. I understand how bullying happens. Crowd mentality. I made sure it didn't happen to my own kids and in that found my way to healing. There's no need to think about it anymore.

I left that classroom in 1982, but I didn't recover the emotional pain until 2005. And I finally got there by letting myself forget and teaching myself how to be on my own side so that I could go out and do my magnificent things.

One of the things that I did was publish my book, How to Be on Your Own Side. I took the pain of being invisible, of not having any cheerleaders cheering me on, and I turned it into activities that I could do to teach myself how to be the one who always had my back.

You can find my book at howtobeonyourownside.com. You can also find it on Amazon. And if you cannot afford my book, send me an email, [email protected], and I will give you my book for free because if you need it, it's here for you.
