I saw a hateful comment on someone’s Facebook post and clicked her profile. Her cover photo said Peace & Love. I laughed out loud and thought… what a hypocrite. I’ve been seeing a lot of that lately.
Social media is filled with bot accounts that look and sound just like real people. Plus, real people phishing - pretending to be a person or business.
Plus, real people who want to divide and incite fear, anger, etc.
If someone’s values have them hating on their fellow humans, cheering someone’s misfortune or the loss of their dignity – they are destroying themselves from within. Hate isn’t good for digestion or peace of mind and it destroys people from the inside out. Be glad that’s not you.
I’ve run the Positively Narcolepsy Group for almost 10 years now. There are 2,500 members and hundreds more I blocked. I taught myself what to look for in a profile to see if it’s a real person or a troublemaker.
A friend of mine posted a pic of ten different accounts that shared the same exact tweet. Unless you are paying attention, unless you know what to look for, you are being manipulated daily. Put into emotional states unnecessarily.
So next time you’re upset online, ask yourself: would I care about this if this wasn’t true? If the answer is no - wait. Because the truth might never show up and your peace is too valuable to waste on lies.
