Every feeling you've ever had came from inside of you. The good, the hard, the strong, the weak, the loving, the hateful, the brave, the fear. You make them all all day long. No one makes you feel anything. You create all of your feelings.

And if that's something you want to think about for a little while, stick around for this daily dose of Dawn at Dawn — videos designed to expand your thinking. This channel and my metacognition blog are opportunities for you to think about something you might not have thought about and to be more prepared for life in general. As a resilience coach, my videos are ideal for people who are living in challenging circumstances but want to have more out of life. No matter what that looks like.

So the first time I heard that you create your own feelings — like every feeling you've ever had, you created it — I was like, Wow. That was really hard to accept and to process. But once I did, I realized the hard truth of it all. And because I became deeply aware of that and spent time thinking about it, I realized that if I created all the hard feelings that made me sob all those years, I can create good feelings that take the pain with the tears.

If I chose weakness in a moment when I was feeling weak, I can still choose strength at any point and it will meet me where I create it. If I've been hating on my neighbor because they're different or because they provoked me, I can cool those flames by loving myself more and letting them leave my awareness. When I am afraid, I can let myself think less of what might happen by reassuring myself that my bravery's always been visible and that it is a choice that serves me in multiple ways.

The next time you notice a feeling that you might not necessarily want, ask yourself, do I want this feeling that I have created? Does this feeling serve me in some way? Hard feels are designed to get us to act. And you use your thoughts to adjust your inner ecosystem. And in that you create your own reality.

Metacognition is thinking about your thinking. And I never conceptualized arguing with my own mind until I actually did it. Many of the things I've achieved, it is said you cannot do. They say you must meditate to clear your mind. And I did not. I did it differently.

You cannot heal ringing in the ear — tinnitus. Well, I did with Om chanting. They'll tell you that you can't make yourself stop thinking about something. That's baloney. Do you still think about something that irritated you last week? No. Exactly. You make a deal with your brain to skip the topic and distract yourself just like a toddler. I did that. It worked.

They say you can't move past pain without forgiving people. But that's wrong. You can use understanding to let go of the hard feelings attached to the person who did the unforgivable thing to you. You can even sneer at them like you smelled rotten fish. That doesn't keep you from moving forward. Forgiveness is for the people that it works for. And for everyone else like me, there's understanding.

There's nothing more important to your mental health than your state of mind. Your mind just collects and stores data. It's you that gives that data meaning. And you are 100% in charge of your inner ecosystem. And you can control it. And don't listen to anyone who tells you that you can't. Try for yourself.

No matter what you perceive the obstacle to be, always keeping your insides the priority. I can't make myself stay awake through a narcolepsy episode. And to be honest, I stopped trying to decades ago. I take the nap. It's what my brain wants. So I honor my meatsuit and it reboots me. And I'm unique in that way and I'm grateful to be able to live that way.

Whatever you're facing externally, it will be easier to deal with if your mind is the playground. If your central nervous system is regulated, if you're eating nutritious food and staying hydrated, Donna. Act like you want the people in your world to act and together we can make the world a better place.
