Let the Sickness End With You: Learning to Let Go of Hurt

It stinks when people hurt us, but staying in that hurts us more.

This video is for anyone who's been hurt by someone else and has yet to let it go. Those who cling to their victimhood, and those waiting for an apology that will never come.

This is the Daily Dose of Dawn at Dawn - videos designed to expand your thinking.

So why do we want to think about this? Because as long as we're alive, there are going to be people who hurt us on some scale. And learning the skill of moving on after being hurt isn't taught in school.

Welcome in to my daily dosers to this conversation about moving beyond hurts so that we can enjoy our lives.

For the first 41 years of my life, I felt like I didn't have a right to be happy because my life was such a mess. Because the people in my life who were supposed to love and care for me were the people who were hurting me.

That's a very challenging thing to live through.

Hurt people hurt people. And I needed to raise myself up enough so that I could let the sickness end with me. So I didn't take my hurt and hurt other people.

And I did that by teaching myself the skill of letting it all go.

So much of my coaching practice is just me helping my clients say: "Now what? Okay, this happened. Now what? Let's face it and find our way through it."

Maybe you're like me. Maybe your parents hurt you, other relatives, relationships in your life, kids in your class growing up. Dragging all that around is exhausting.

And it's important to teach yourself to feel the feels, but keep your feet out of the fire.

And what does that mean? It means we examine our feelings but don't let them make us sick to our stomach.

And if I do end up sick to my stomach, to take care of that - to soothe myself and give myself comfort and see myself through the thing that's making me sick to my stomach. Because sick stomachs fester and turn into ulcers on any scale in your life.

The things that you don't face will eat you alive.

So don't be afraid to face things. See the value in keeping your inner ecosystem positive and healthy.

Let go of what's dark inside of you and let the light shine, and you will find more strength than if you brood and complain and lament your struggle.

Trust me - 41 years of field research over here.

It is possible to have joy in a hard life.
