Positivity is not throwing confetti

How can positivity be toxic and what can you do about it?

This is something I’m really passionate about and what I'm going to tell you might just change your life.

The only way for positivity to be toxic is if it's used to dismiss you or minimize what you're going through.

However, just like 'no one can make you feel inferior without your consent' no one can make you feel dismissed without your consent.

Hear me out – if someone said, go fly around the room, you’d have no problem dismissing that. So, you can teach yourself to respond to toxic positivity in a way that gives you back your power.

Every feeling you’ve ever had came from inside of you. When you feel dismissed – turn it back on them.

How do you do that? For me, I saw them as “blind” or “with blinders on” – they are just INCAPABLE of seeing what you see. You have more sight than they do.

Imagine you had the vision of a hawk. You know no one can see as far or as clearly as you can.

Imagine you're driving in a car and you say "wow, look at that cow!" and they're like "what cow? there's no cow."

So, you just sit there patiently until you get closer and then they're like, "Oh, look, a cow!" as you roll your eyes.

THAT is easy to understand, right?

Now transfer that to this experience you're having of someone who can't see the emotional cow yet.

"If I say, my lifelong health issues have cost me 7 of my teeth." and the person says, "at least you still have the rest of them!"

Instead of hurting my own body by getting mad or feeling dismissed about it, I think to myself –

I hope you never know for yourself just exactly what it means to go through what I'm going through. I don’t even bother to say it – because it’s enough that I know.

See their inability to give you proper empathy as a shortcoming in their social skills, in the evolution of their humanity - because that's what it is!

That might sound kinda rude but if you think about it, it’s true.

Everyone is doing the best they can with where they’re at.

This helps me with everything in life – to know that people aren’t sucking on purpose – they just don’t know better.

It takes a lot of PRACTICE to get here. It didn’t happen overnight, but it did happen. And that means it can happen for you too.

I'm living proof that you can be immune to toxic positivity by using your own empathy as a shield and understanding that it is not your limitation to hold your hand through it and take your power back. #empowerment #toxicpositivity #mindsetstrategy #happymatters #DailyDoseofDawn
