Dose 53 SELF CARE

I’m doing the thing, ma! – Daily Dose of Dawn at dawn #53

That’s my mindset ‘atta girl’ when I do something I’m proud of, especially if it was hard for me to do it. Being proud of yourself is not a given, especially if you had a challenging upbringing.

Learning how to start celebrating yourself can be a fine line between – am I celebrating… or bragging? An older reader, after going through my book, shared that she was taught - any celebrating of yourself was bad, bragging, not acceptable.

So, she never did it in the 70+ years she’s been alive.

When you can’t be proud of yourself… you might spend all your time waiting for someone to be proud of you before you can feel good or encouraged. That was me for a long time and a huge part of the reason I wrote How To Be On Your Own Side. Because you can do it for yourself! And when you do, life becomes infinitely easier. Trust me.

One thing I discovered from getting comfortable with humble brags is that the praise I received ADDED to my already feeling good about myself. If it didn’t come, I was still proud of myself. If it did come, I let it shine into my soul and deepen my connection to me.

Then, when things got hard and no one was around to encourage me, I could think back to the encouraging things people said last time I shared good news.

It’s why there’s a whole day focused on getting comfortable with it in my book. Give it a try! Share something good that happened for you with friends or loved ones and notice how it feels inside of you to have that lift up from their replies – or comment here and I’ll be happy for you. Make it a habit and you’ll encourage others to do the same.

About the Author

Dawn Super is an empowerment coach, speaker, and writer who helps people thrive — not someday, but right now, exactly as they are. She knows firsthand what it’s like to live with lifelong health challenges, including narcolepsy, and has made it her mission to teach others how to show up for themselves with compassion, courage, and a little bit of humor and sass.
Known for her “mindset magic strategies,” Dawn brings a blend of practical tools, soulful insight, and real-talk encouragement to anyone ready to stop waiting for permission to love themselves. Her work speaks especially to those who’ve felt left out, misunderstood, or stuck on the sidelines — the misfits, the dreamers, the rebels, and the overcomers.
When she’s not coaching, creating, or writing, you might find her meditating at the beach, virtually socializing, or laughing (probably at one of her own jokes). Dawn believes that self-love isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a radical act of rebellion in a world that profits from your doubt.
You can connect with Dawn, learn more about her coaching program and explore the many personal growth courses in her membership at DawnSuper.com.
