…because they refuse to learn their life lesson.

When we learn our life lesson, we move on. When we don’t, we repeat them and will continue to… until we learn.

We don’t always grow with others at the same pace. Sometimes we’re ready and they’re not. We want them to come, so we wait…

Going back to my Be the Lighthouse Dose – without good boundaries you can be holding yourself back in life. What does that look like?

Someone repeatedly lying to you and you continue to believe them.

You keep covering for your co-worker and they keep letting you.

Continually trying to get through to that one relative that doesn’t get it.

Loaning your friend money, again, even though they don’t pay you back

Bad boundaries open the door to co-dependence, enabling, dysfunction.

So, what can you do about it? If you’ve tried to help someone and they’re just not helping themselves, you really only have two choices – move on to new lessons of your own or stay stuck in their classroom.

“I’m throwing you a lifeline, not an anchor.” That one helps me keep good boundaries when helping others.

Think about where you might still be sitting in someone else’s classroom. Is it time to graduate into your own?

About the Author

Dawn Super is a resilience coach, speaker, and writer who helps people thrive — not someday, but right now, exactly as they are. She knows firsthand what it’s like to live with lifelong health challenges, including narcolepsy, and has made it her mission to teach others how to show up for themselves with compassion, courage, and a little bit of humor and sass.

Her work speaks especially to those who’ve felt left out, misunderstood, or stuck on the sidelines — the misfits, the dreamers, the rebels, and the overcomers.
When she’s not coaching, creating, or writing, you might find her picking up rusty metal at the beach, virtually socializing, or laughing along at life. Dawn believes that self-love isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a radical act of rebellion in a world that profits from your doubt.
