How to Show Up for Yourself When Nobody Sees What It Takes to Be You | #167

April 14, 20264 min read

Is it hard to be you? If you're doing it alone — managing chronic illness, carrying invisible weight, pushing forward without anyone in your corner — this dose is for you. In Daily Dose of Dawn #167, resilience coach Dawn Super speaks to the person who no longer needs to be seen out of desperation, but would still really love a pat on the back every now and then. She shares how she stopped waiting for someone else to be her cheerleader and learned to show up for herself — and how you can too, no matter who's paying attention.

How to show up for yourself when no one really sees what goes into being you.

This dose is for the one doing it alone. Or at least it feels like you're alone. There's no one wishing you a good morning. No one acknowledging your strength or your struggle. You feel like things might be a little bit easier if you had someone in your corner cheering you on or at least giving you a pat on the back. Going a little deeper, you've done the work to not let all of that destroy you. You're no longer needy or desperate to be seen. It would just be nice. Lastly, you're actively looking for strategies to start showing up for yourself, no matter who else is paying attention.

If all that sounds like you, welcome in to your daily dose of Dawn at Dawn videos designed to expand your thinking.

We often don't realize that we can be our own cheerleader. I spent a lifetime waiting for someone to be excited about what I was doing or what I wanted to do. I was in this relationship where I would share something I was excited about and they would minimize it. And it made it hard to share my joys and it made it hard to hold on to my enthusiasm for my own projects. I had to find a way around that and I did.

No one owes us an "atta girl" or a "you can do it." Many of us got that from our parents. And if you did, I'm happy for you that you did. I did not.

For many of us living with chronic illness or pain we're really the only ones who understand all of the mental, physical, and emotional labor it takes just to live. And then on top of that, you have to find the strength to encourage yourself when no one is there to encourage you. And there may even be some people expressing disappointment in you.

This is why I wrote my book because long ago now, no one was on my side, not even me. I had to teach myself how to stay the course. how to not only survive but to go beyond coping into thriving and loving my life.

The lessons started as an email project. I called it the encouragement challenge and when it started changing lives, I was excited. Then a couple months later, I almost died. Oops. So, I took it out of an email challenge and I published it so that everyone can have access to it forever.

There's a song lyric I love that goes, "I'm more than a bird. I'm more than a plane. I'm more than some pretty face beside a train. And it's not easy to be me." Superman.

Do you need to be on your own side? My book can help you with that. If you're not ready for a 14-day self-love boot camp, you can just watch my old doses. A lot of my clients say they put the playlist on because it's almost like a little power up. Every one they listen to gives them strength to get through the next challenge they have to face.

If you are ready to spend 14 days getting on your own side, getting to know yourself better, learning how to calm down and talk about your wins and demystify mindfulness and really understand how not to be a doormat.

If you can't afford my book, I want to give it to you for free. I'm not kidding. Just email me, Dawn at DawnSuper dot com. I've got a link. You fill in your info, I send you my book, 14 Days, Change Your Life.

Known for her “mindset magic strategies,” Dawn brings a blend of practical tools, soulful insight, and real-talk encouragement to anyone ready to stop waiting for permission to love themselves. Her work speaks especially to those who’ve felt left out, misunderstood, or stuck on the sidelines — the misfits, the dreamers, the rebels, and the overcomers.
When she’s not coaching, creating, or writing, you might find her picking up rusty metal at the beach, virtually socializing, or laughing along at life. Dawn believes that self-love isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a radical act of rebellion in a world that profits from your doubt.
