Hearts and daggers

How I handle it when I meet people who are not authentic. If you’re working on not being bothered by rejection or being ghosted, listen up.

This may sound familiar – you ran into someone somewhere and you felt like you hit it off. Lots of dots connected or stories shared…

You get their information and give them yours and then…

Maybe they don’t accept your friend request or you message them and don’t hear back. Hello anxious attachment.

Just because you finally got to a place where you’re living an authentic life doesn’t mean everybody else has gotten there with you.

The only thing you can control in life is yourself… and as those viral videos show - sometimes we struggle with that too!

The first thing that I did was get to a place where I didn’t ‘need’ other people to like me, which was not easy, or quick – I have a vid about how I did that:

“What happens if I don’t need other people to like me?”

I need a lot of repetition to learn, so I create ‘mindset strategies’ that I can repeat whenever I get the opportunity to practice them.

Second, I created a rule for myself from one of those silly Ronco infomercial – set it and forget it. Except I did – “send it and forget it.”

Send it and forget it

Each time I commented, messaged, or sent a friend request – I wouldn’t wait for a reply. I would cut that expectation line so that I let myself ‘forget’ I ever even sent anything.

Third, I started saying, “I don’t keep clocks on people.” This not only makes you feel better, it also makes the people who you are replying to feel better if they take a little bit longer to reply to you than what they think is appropriate.

I really choose to believe in the phrase, “What’s meant for you will always find its way to you,” so I just keep living my life.

I don’t want to feel bad. I don’t want anyone else to feel bad. That’s why I am making all this content because when you feel bad about yourself you what… that’s right… you feel bad inside of yourself. And, that’s a waste.

Always put yourself out there. Shine your light as brightly as you can in that moment. No matter what kind of rejection or energetic mismatch you’re dealing with, always put yourself out there, your authentic self.

The people who shy away from your light are not your people. The people who show up with sunglasses are!

Keep being you

About the Author

Dawn Super is an empowerment coach, speaker, and writer who helps people thrive — not someday, but right now, exactly as they are. She knows firsthand what it’s like to live with lifelong health challenges, including narcolepsy, and has made it her mission to teach others how to show up for themselves with compassion, courage, and a little bit of humor and sass.
Known for her “mindset magic strategies,” Dawn brings a blend of practical tools, soulful insight, and real-talk encouragement to anyone ready to stop waiting for permission to love themselves. Her work speaks especially to those who’ve felt left out, misunderstood, or stuck on the sidelines — the misfits, the dreamers, the rebels, and the overcomers.
When she’s not coaching, creating, or writing, you might find her meditating at the beach, virtually socializing, or laughing (probably at one of her own jokes). Dawn believes that self-love isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a radical act of rebellion in a world that profits from your doubt.
You can connect with Dawn, learn more about her coaching program and explore the many personal growth courses in her membership at DawnSuper.com.
